How to Begin Mediation

Online Submission: Complete Form RM, Request to Mediate and submit the $500 non-refundable filing fee. Email [email protected] or call 213-739-8376 with questions.

Mailed Submission: Contact our office at [email protected]. Mailed submissions may take weeks to process and are discouraged.

If the Parties Have Pre-Agreed to a Mediator

We will send your Request to Mediate to the selected mediator to check for any conflicts. If the mediator accepts the case, they will contact both parties to:

  • Begin scheduling the mediation session
  • Provide any required documents
  • Coordinate payment of mediator fees
  • Request additional case details

You can generally expect a response from the mediator within three business days.  The mediator typically has 20 calendar days for the scheduling process. For full details, please review our Rules & Policies. If you have not heard from the mediator within one week of assignment, contact us at [email protected] and include the property address in the email subject.

If the Parties Have Not Pre-Agreed to a Mediator

We will send the other party notice of your request to mediate.  They will have seven business days to respond. We will send the notice by both U.S. mail and email (if both contacts are provided). You will receive a copy of this notice by email.

When the other party responds, we will process the mediation as outlined above.  If the other party does not respond, we will notify you and send a copy to the other party as documentation of your effort to mediate.
